Respect for nature with minimalist, handcrafted objects

We work with an entirely natural material based on paper fiber, an organic composite which is the basis of our creations: cardboard-stone.

We work with an entirely natural material made from paper fiber, an organic composite that forms the basis of all our creations: carton-pierre.

This material is not merely a resource; it's the heart of our approach. Traditionally used for molding, we process it into thin, semi-rigid sheets that we handcraft in our workshop in Antony, France.

This innovative method of working with the material allows us to explore new applications, particularly in creating lightweight and robust objects.

Ultimately, our expertise invites reflection on cultural memory, material transformation, and the poetry that emerges from the harmony between tradition and innovation. We celebrate art's ability to converse with time, blending symbolism, technique, and aesthetics to offer both a sensory and intellectual experience.

The History of Carton-Pierre

A traditional material

Carton-pierre is an ancient material, used since the 18th century to mimic stone in the production of ornaments and lightweight sculptures. Originally composed of paper-mâché and plaster, it allowed for the creation of decorative elements with a lightness and flexibility that made it easier to handle than natural stone. This tradition has been passed down through centuries, and today, we're reinventing this material with an environmentally friendly composition, adapted to contemporary challenges.

A Natural and Durable Composition

The carton-pierre we use is made from natural and recycled raw materials. It primarily consists of cellulose wadding, derived from recycled paper, and oyster shells, which are waste products from the food industry, along with a natural glue. This unique combination offers a rich, organic texture while valorizing resources considered waste in other industries.

The use of these recycled and renewable materials makes carton-pierre an eco-responsible material, contributing to the reduction of our creations' ecological footprint. By reintegrating these residues into an artisanal production cycle, we make carton-pierre an example of the circular economy, where every element finds a second life.
