The Kimono Vase is a harmonious blend of ancient tradition and contemporary innovation. Its design is inspired by the kimono, which symbolises both elegance and traditional Japanese cultural identity. Working with thin sheets of carton-pierre, we were able to cut a precise two-dimensional pattern into the material, then bend it to create a three-dimensional object. The result is a vase that is as fine and light as fabric, yet as robust as wood.

This process highlights a parallel between carton-pierre and fabric: the flexibility of the sheets of carton-pierre echoes the fluidity of the textile. This duality between strength and fragility reflects some of the fundamental principles of Japanese culture, where beauty often lies in the fragile balance between these two dimensions.

USAGE

Our vases are handmade from carton-pierre in our workshop in Ile de France. They include a waterproof, washable, and adjustable insert.
Please keep your vase out of direct sunlight to help preserve the colors longer. Plants are not included.
